If that motherboard is ATX standard, you might be able to upgrade your power supply. That machine probably cost a mint when you bought it, and it's not really that old (the CPU was released 2Q of 2020, about 3.5 years ago, and turbos to over 5GHz), but doing meaningful expansion really needs a stronger power supply and larger case. OP might want to run Rivatuner or just have GPU-Z or something running in the background to see what the bottleneck actually is.Ĭlick to expand. You're kind of crippled by that weak power supply and the small case. In any case, that Xeon CPU might be enough of a bottleneck on its own to make a GPU upgrade of questionable benefit anyway. Ada Lovelace cards are much more power efficent than Turing or Ampere. But given the OP doesn't want to or can't upgrade literally any other part of his system, it's still an upgrade. I won't argue that crippling the memory bus to 128-bits wasn't a garbage move by Nvidia. I don't think that's what he is asking for, however. If OP wants 1000+ FPS for his competitive Overwatch gaming or whatever in 4k with max settings, then probably needs to consider a whole new rig. For me, consistently above 30FPS is more than adequate. As I said, I could've easily gotten more if I wasn't set on having ray tracing enabled. Obviously it depends on your targets for framerate and visual settings. but then FPS dips into the 20s at best.Ĭlick to expand.Incorrect, as my experience demonstrates. Of interest is AMD vs Nvidia as F1 2023 has ray tracing and it does look nice when I've enabled it. I've done a fair amount of looking at the multitude of cards out there but wanted to pulse those of you who have used the current gen cards about what is actually worth it. I had considered the much discussed 4060 8GB or 16GB, but sounds like that would not be much of a sustainable upgrade despite meeting the single power connector and power budget as well as dual height slot. Looks like Quadro RTX4000 is about a RTX2070. Quadro RTX4000 8GB - Total board power 160W for reference Lenovo P340 Mini-Tower (I think, like 3/4 the size of an ATX case) Definitely nothing that actually uses what a Quadro is beneficial for. Why upgrade otherwise? My daily uses for this rig are basic photo editing (Photoshop) and some light CAD work. Why an upgrade? I have a 34" widescreen at 3440x1440 and even running a step down in resolution, the current GPU struggles on high settings and, I'll be honest, I'd like to turn up the quality of the graphics. I've moved some cards around so I could do a double height GPU but can't be one that is 2.X height and impinge on a 3rd slot. Biggest constraint is power supply as it only 550W has a single available 8-pin power connector. I am pondering if there is any video card worth the upgrade on the market that will fit into my mini tower Lenovo workstation. When I play games, I generally play racing games casually with occasional dips into games with a single player story (most recently Titanfall 2 and Gears of War 5, but I'm pretty terrible at FPS games!).
